The Federal Government has commenced the training phase of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme, with 250,000 Nigerians matched to over 1,700 accredited centres across the country.

According to a statement released on Saturday through the verified X handle of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, the programme has received more than 1.3 million applications, with 970,000 certified as eligible for the six to twelve-month master training track across 25 NBTE-approved trades. These include hospitality, fashion and garment making, livestock, animal husbandry, and solar photovoltaics.

Dr Alausa, who visited some training centres in Abuja, expressed satisfaction with the progress and noted that many of the participants, including university graduates, were eager to acquire practical and industry-relevant skills to improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the economy.

He stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to transforming Nigeria from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-driven one, adding that five percent of TETFund resources has been approved to sustainably support and expand TVET programmes nationwide.

Describing the initiative as Renewed Hope in Action, the Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to empowering Nigerians through skills development and job creation.
