The Nigeria Customs Service Board on Tuesday approved the appointment of five new Deputy Comptroller-Generals and eight Assistant Comptroller-Generals in a major leadership overhaul carried out during its 64th Regular Meeting.
The decisions, taken on 25 November 2025 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, were based on statutory provisions and the Federal Character principle contained in Section 14(4) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

Officers elevated to Deputy Comptroller-General are Baba Imam from the North-East, Isah Umar and Tijjani Abe from the North-West, Timi Bomodi from the South-South, and Oluyomi Adebakin from the South-West. The new Assistant Comptroller-Generals are C.G. Ogbonna (South-East), I. Abba-Aji and M.D. Malah (North-East), G.M. Haruna and E.J. Edelduok (South-South), G. Gaura and I. Isyaku (North-West), and M.S. Shuaibu (North-Central).
Separately, the Board granted special promotions to ten officers for outstanding performance in revenue generation and border security. Promoted to Comptroller are A.C. Fanyam and G.M. Shidali, while S. Omofoma, O.A. Oladepo, A.Y. Musa, A. Ogboru, and A.A. Maiwada rose to Deputy Comptroller. C.N. Essien and H. Aliyu became Assistant Comptroller, and A.S. Shofadekan moved to Deputy Superintendent.
The appointments fill vacancies created by recent retirements and aim to reinforce leadership succession across customs commands nationwide.
According to the Board, the special promotion category recognises officers whose work directly improved operational efficiency and national revenue collection.
All promotions and appointments take immediate effect, equipping the Service to tackle emerging challenges in trade facilitation, revenue mobilisation, and border security.
