Nigeria will host the 2025 China–Nigeria Wushu Friendship Cup from October 29 to 30, 2025, in Abuja. The event aims to strengthen cultural ties between both countries and promote youth development through martial arts.

Speaking during the media briefing at the China Cultural Centre in Abuja, the Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Yang Jianxing, described the championship as “a meaningful event that showcases the beauty and spirit of Chinese Wushu culture.” He said the purpose is to bring people together to enjoy the discipline and values of Wushu.

Yang explained that Wushu, beyond its physical skill, embodies peace, discipline, and moral strength. “It teaches self-defence and inner strength,” he said. “A stronger person has the responsibility to help the weaker. That is the true way of Wushu culture.”

Also speaking, Mr. Mykel Eneduwa, Patron of the FCT Wushu Association and President of the Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria, commended the Chinese Embassy for promoting martial arts as a tool for cultural exchange and youth empowerment. He said the tournament would feature athletes from all 36 states and the FCT competing in six categories, including Taijiquan and traditional forms.

Eneduwa disclosed that winners will receive cash prizes of ₦500,000, ₦300,000, and ₦200,000 for the first, second, and third positions, respectively. He added that athletes would also enjoy free accommodation, feeding, and registration during the two-day event at the National Stadium, Package B, Abuja.

Organisers reaffirmed their commitment to using Wushu to promote cultural understanding and national unity, deepening friendship between China and Nigeria through sport.
