The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, has pledged stronger staff engagement, continuous training, and accelerated digital reforms to boost efficiency in the ministry.
Speaking at the 2025 Mid-Year Sensitization Conference held at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, Dr. Kana described himself as “a unionist at heart” and assured that both professionals and support staff would benefit from structured capacity-building initiatives. He further announced plans to digitize ministry operations through the deployment of all-in-one computers, enhanced cybersecurity, and reliable power supply, while reminding staff that promotions will now be tied to performance under the Federal Government’s Performance Management System (PMS).
He emphasized teamwork and professionalism as key to achieving results, urging staff to shun rumor-mongering and embrace collective responsibility. “It is doable, but only if we all work together,” he stated.
Earlier, the Director of Human Resource Management highlighted the importance of aligning the ministry’s legally defined mandate with the Honourable Minister’s five-point agenda, which focuses on safety compliance, infrastructure development, support for local operators, human capacity building, and revenue generation. Union leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and partnership, stressing that workers remain central to the growth and sustainability of the aviation industry.
The conference, which brought together management, union leaders, and staff, was described as a vital platform for strengthening collaboration and fostering industrial harmony in pursuit of sector-wide reforms.
