The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has relocated corps members stationed in affected areas of Benue State to safer locations in Makurdi. According to the Benue State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, the corps members were swiftly evacuated from high-risk areas like Yelewata and Daudu with the assistance of the police on June 19, 2025.
The evacuated corps members are currently being housed in various family houses affiliated with the Nigeria Corpers Christian Fellowship (NCCF), National Association of Catholic Corps Members (NACCM), and Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria (MCAN). A head count was conducted after the evacuation, and all corps members were accounted for with none missing.
“We do not joke with the safety of our corps members because we take them as our children. So as soon as we heard about the crisis, we contacted the Commissioner of Police, who detailed his officers to help us evacuate our corps members,” Garba said. She urged parents to be calm, saying that their children were safe and receiving support. “I am sure that the parents of our corps members have heard that all the security chiefs have moved to Benue, so they have no reason to fear. Above all, God, who is the safest security, is everywhere; He is with your children too,” she added.
This development comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Makurdi, where he met with stakeholders and directed security agencies to secure the affected communities and apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
