The Federal Government has appealed for stronger international military and intelligence assistance to bolster Nigeria’s ongoing campaign against terrorism, acknowledging that additional foreign firepower is needed to decisively defeat violent extremists across the country.
The position of the government was contained in a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), following a courtesy visit by leaders of the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) to the SGF in Abuja.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, said the Tinubu administration remains unwavering in its resolve to restore peace nationwide but stressed that Nigeria’s fight against terrorism requires stronger regional and global collaboration. “We are seriously committed to eradicating insecurity. We need support from our allies to be able to fight terrorists in the land,” he stated.
Akume explained that the Federal Government has been working closely with traditional rulers, business leaders, political actors, private sector players and religious bodies to deepen national stability. However, he emphasized that the complexities of modern terrorism demand coordinated security partnerships beyond Nigeria’s borders.

He commended the Charismatic Bishops Conference for its steadfast support for the Tinubu administration, describing the confidence vote passed by the clerics as a reflection of the government’s determination to confront insecurity and other national challenges. The SGF urged religious organisations across the country to intensify prayers for peace, unity and the prosperity of the nation.
Earlier, Archbishop Prof. Leonard Bature Kawas, President of the CBCN, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s security interventions, pledging continuous prayers for Nigeria’s leadership and for the success of ongoing peace-building efforts. He noted that the bishops stand firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as his administration works to strengthen national security and economic stability.
The CBCN delegation also encouraged the government to sustain its multi-sectoral approach to governance and assured that the Church will remain a dependable partner in promoting national cohesion and supporting efforts aimed at ending insecurity.
