The Federal Government has commended the Council of Former Permanent Secretaries (CORFEPS) for their advisory role in enhancing governance and public sector efficiency during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, CON, in Abuja.
Led by Dr. Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR, National Chairman of CORFEPS and former SGF, the delegation highlighted the council’s commitment to supporting the present administration through expert guidance and strategic advice.
Addressing the delegation, SGF Akume praised CORFEPS for their contributions and assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would take their recommendations into consideration to strengthen public service delivery. “We value your expertise and will leverage your insights to enhance governance and national development,” he said.
Dr. Yayale Ahmed noted that CORFEPS had submitted several advisory documents to the President, including Strengthening the Renewed Hope Agenda (13 March 2024), Enhancing Government Food Security Agenda (26 August 2024), and Deportation of Foreigners from the USA: Implications for Nigeria (19 December 2024). Additionally, an advisory on Tax Reform Agenda has been forwarded to the National Assembly.
The SGF highlighted the importance of tapping into the wealth of experience within CORFEPS, describing it as a crucial step toward effective nation-building and public service excellence. “Your service to the Federal Civil Service sets a benchmark, and we are committed to translating this wisdom into actionable policies,” Akume added.
The meeting underscored a shared vision of collaboration between former civil servants and the Tinubu administration, reflecting the government’s dedication to leveraging strategic advisory input for improved governance and sustainable national development.
