Education Ministry Moves to Quell Rumour on Alleged School Closure

By Dr Nafisat Makinde

The Federal Ministry of Education has disowned a viral message claiming that schools across the country have been directed to close from 24 November 2025. The Ministry described the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement dated 22 November 2025 and signed by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations, the Ministry said it had not issued any directive ordering nationwide school closure. It urged Nigerians to disregard the rumour and rely only on verified information.

The Ministry advised the public to depend solely on official communication channels of the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, State Governments and recognised security agencies. It added that announcements from unverified sources should be ignored.

According to the Ministry, sharing unconfirmed information contributes to unnecessary panic and fuels the spread of misinformation. It encouraged the public to always cross-check the authenticity of messages before circulating them.
