The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Department has taken a significant step towards transforming the education sector by hosting a two-day training program for teachers on innovation and entrepreneurship education. The program, which ran from April 28 to April 29, 2025, aimed to equip educators with the skills and knowledge necessary to produce students who can think independently, create confidently, and compete globally.

The Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, emphasized the urgent need to reform traditional education systems to meet the demands of the 21st century. “The world is currently driven by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which requires learners who are innovative, adaptable, and entrepreneurial,” he said. “To achieve this vision, we must first empower our teachers, the bedrock of our education system.”

Dr. Hayyo expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister FCT, Bar Ezenwo Nyesom Wike (CON), for his visionary leadership and commended the international partners from Brunel University Business School, United Kingdom, and the Nigeria-Brunel Innovation Team for their support.

The Director/Secretary FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Ladan, noted that the program aligns with the FCT’s educational direction and global trends by advancing innovation and entrepreneurship right from the classroom. The training will address three critical needs: equipping teachers with 21st-century skills, curriculum integration of innovation and entrepreneurship, and community and industry collaboration.

The Permanent Secretary, Education, represented by Hajia Hajara Alayande, described the workshop training as a transformational initiative designed to reshape education in the FCT. “We need to empower students through innovative teaching methods, preparing them early to become critical thinkers and future entrepreneurs,” she said.

The program is a collaborative effort between the FCT Secondary Education Board, Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation, FCT Universal Basic Education Board, and international partners like Brunel University Business School (UK) and Canban Group. This partnership underscores the commitment to providing FCT students with a world-class education that prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century.

By empowering teachers and providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge, the FCT Education Department is working to create a brighter future for FCT students.
