The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Girls’ Basketball team has emerged as Regional Champions of the 25th MILO National Secondary School Basketball Championship, securing their spot in the National finals slated for Ibadan later this year.
The FCT Girls from Government Secondary School, Karu, displayed skill and determination, defeating tough opponents from Kaduna and other Nigerian states, sealing their victory with dominant performances in the semi-finals and finals matches.
In a parallel feat, the FCT boys’ team from Government Secondary School, Gwarimpa made a remarkable debut by finishing as first runners-up in the regional competition. Officials commended the teams for their impressive performance in their first-ever appearance, noting their energy and determination to reach the Finals.
Receiving the winning teams, Dr. Danlami Hayyo expressed his joy over the achievement, stating, “You have brought the FCT into the limelight through the outstanding performance of both our boys’ and girls’ teams.”
The Secretary for Education commended their determination and commitment, assuring the teams of the FCT Administration’s support toward their participation in the National finals. “No effort would be spared in ensuring their success,” Hayyo added.
The Director of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Mohammed Ladan, reiterated the Board’s unwavering commitment to nurturing young talents through quality training and support.
He expressed confidence that the teams would bring the National trophy home to the FCT.
The captains of the two teams, Diouf Fatima and Edward Okafor, expressed their delight in being crowned champions and appreciated the FCT Administration for its support.
They promised to continue flying the flag of the FCT and Nigeria with pride and discipline.
