The Federal Government has introduced a Single Window Trade Facilitation Portal, a unified digital platform designed to simplify Nigeria’s import and export procedures and enhance the country’s competitiveness in global trade.
In a statement from the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, the government said the new portal will serve as a one-stop shop for international trade. It enables importers and exporters to comply with regulations, submit required documents, and obtain necessary permits in one place. The Ministry explained that the initiative is a major step toward eliminating bottlenecks, streamlining documentation, and speeding up customs clearance.
The portal is part of the broader National Single Window Programme being implemented in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Nigerian Ports Authority, and other trade agencies. Officials said the system will link these agencies through a single electronic framework to reduce bureaucracy and improve coordination.
According to reports from the Ministry and the National Single Window Secretariat, the rollout will be phased, with full integration of all partner agencies expected by the first quarter of 2026. Stakeholder meetings have already been held with freight forwarders and trade operators to ensure a smooth transition.
Experts say the portal will reduce paperwork, cut delays, lower transaction costs, and promote transparency. They believe it will also create a more business-friendly environment and strengthen investor confidence. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader plan to use technology and policy reforms to drive economic transformation and improve Nigeria’s position in global markets.
