The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), in collaboration with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), has concluded a week-long training in Abuja, urging Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to embrace fiscal discipline and transparency in public finance management.

The programme, held from August 20 to 27, 2025, focused on “Strategies for Increased Fiscal Efficiency, Enhanced Government Revenue and Plugging Leakages in the Nigerian Financial System.”

FRC Chairman, Victor Muruako, represented by his Special Adviser, Dr. Chris Uwadoka, commended the robust discussions during the training. He called on MDAs to prepare their audited accounts early and comply with remittance templates for Operating Surplus.

NIPSS Senior Fellow and course coordinator, Dr. Solomon Titus Gushibet, said the training addressed nine thematic areas critical to accountability, noting that participants showed strong commitment to reforms.

Representing NIPSS Director-General, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, Professor Jane Omotayo Aane highlighted irregularities in public procurement, warning that agencies failing to meet contractual obligations commit “an abuse of office.” She urged the FRC to act more decisively on procurement lapses.

The training closed with a renewed commitment by FRC and NIPSS to support MDAs in entrenching a culture of accountability and financial prudence across government institutions.
