Abuja, August 22, 2025 — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says over 505,906 Nigerians have completed online pre-registration in just five days of its 2025 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The figure was announced on Friday at a roadshow in Abuja to flag off the nationwide registration.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, represented by National Commissioner May Agbamuche-Mbu, said the early turnout showed Nigerians’ confidence in the electoral system.
Yakubu noted that while online pre-registration continues, physical registration will begin next week at INEC offices across states and local governments. He urged new voters, those updating details, and citizens seeking transfers to seize the opportunity.
He also appealed to political parties, civil society, the media, and other stakeholders to support the process by mobilising wider participation.
INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, added that teams nationwide are prepared for the physical phase. She assured that every eligible Nigerian will have the chance to register and vote.
The CVR exercise, which combines online and in-person registration, will run in phases nationwide as part of preparations for credible and inclusive elections in 2027.
