The National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC) has officially launched its Electronic Protocol Submission Platform (NHREC E-PORTAL), a secure, user-friendly digital interface designed to facilitate the submission, review, monitoring, and approval of research protocols in Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by Dr. Lolade Dosunmu Adeyemi, Special Adviser on Research and Innovation on behalf of the Honorable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, “This milestone follows the formal unveiling of the platform on October 4, 2024, and reflects the Ministry’s commitment to modernizing health research governance through digital innovation.”
Prof. Richard A. Adegbola, Chairman of NHREC, expressed his excitement about the launch, saying, “This is a proud moment for us all as we take another important step toward strengthening ethical oversight and promoting excellence in health research across the country.”
The NHREC E-PORTAL replaces the previous email-based system, enhancing transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency in line with global best practices. All researchers, research institutions, ethics committee members, sponsors, collaborators, and relevant stakeholders are invited to begin using the platform starting July 1, 2025.
The NHREC expresses its sincere appreciation to the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Health, partners, and generous sponsors for their continued support. The launch of the NHREC E-PORTAL marks a pivotal step toward strengthening ethical oversight and fostering excellence in health research across the country, positioning Nigeria for a leading role in health research in Africa and globally.
The platform is expected to play a critical role in shaping the future of health research in Nigeria, demonstrating the power of collaboration and innovation in advancing health governance.
