Ignore Online List, Customs Tells Applicants, Reaffirms Transparent Recruitment

By Dr. Nafisat Makinde

The Nigeria Customs Service has cautioned applicants and the general public to ignore a viral social media post claiming to show the number of shortlisted candidates per state for the final stage of its 2025 recruitment exercise.

The Service said the online publication was false and did not originate from any of its verified communication channels. It warned that the post was designed to mislead unsuspecting applicants and urged Nigerians to rely only on official updates from the Customs recruitment portal.

According to information gathered, the ongoing recruitment began on December 27, 2024, following a nationwide advertisement that attracted 573,523 applications across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres. After a rigorous documentation process, 286,697 applicants were shortlisted for the first phase of the Computer-Based Test conducted in batches to ensure fairness and efficiency.

Sources within the Service confirmed that only successful candidates from the Superintendent Cadre advanced to the second stage of the test, which will be conducted across approved centres in the six geopolitical zones. The measure, they explained, is part of the agency’s commitment to equity and inclusiveness in its recruitment process.

The Customs Service has consistently emphasised transparency, merit, and adherence to the Federal Character principle in its recruitment exercise. Officials maintain that the process remains free, fair, and credible, in line with global best practices.

Members of the public were reminded to avoid sharing or acting on unverified information capable of causing confusion or exploitation. Genuine updates on the recruitment exercise are posted exclusively on the Nigeria Customs Service Recruitment Update Portal at updates.customs.gov.ng.
