Muslims Nationwide to Observe Eid-ul-Mawlid: Government Highlights Values of Peace and Harmony

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

In a statement signed by the Minister on Tuesday, September 3, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm felicitations to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and worldwide, urging faithful to reflect on the virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion exemplified by the Prophet. “These values are essential for building a united, prosperous, and progressive nation,” he noted.

The Minister further called on all Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation, to use the celebration as an opportunity to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country. He also encouraged citizens to support government efforts aimed at fostering national harmony and sustainable development.

Highlighting the importance of civic responsibility during festivities, Dr. Tunji-Ojo advised all citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperative with policies designed to promote the collective well-being of Nigerians. “We wish all Muslims a joyful and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration,” he concluded.

The declaration comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to acknowledge significant religious and cultural events across the country, ensuring that all Nigerians can participate meaningfully in national celebrations.
