Nigeria Mourns: Former President Muhammadu Buhari Passes On

Nigeria is in mourning following the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in the United Kingdom.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, expressed deep sorrow over the demise, describing President Buhari as a true patriot, statesman, and disciplined leader.

According to a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director, Information & Public Relations, President Buhari’s legacy is defined by his fight against corruption, commitment to national unity, and dedication to public service.

The statement noted that he led with calm strength, moral clarity, and unmatched devotion to the Nigerian project.

In honour of his memory, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast across the country for seven days, beginning Sunday, July 13, 2025.

An emergency Federal Executive Council meeting has also been summoned for Tuesday to pay tribute to the late leader and reflect on his service to the nation.

The SGF extended heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the entire Buhari family, the government, and people of Katsina State, praying for Al-jannah Firdaus for the soul of the departed patriot.
