In a remarkable achievement, Nigeria’s nursing education sector has reached a new milestone, with annual enrollment surging from 28,000 to a record-breaking 115,000 students, exceeding the initial target of 110,000 nursing students.
This significant growth is a testament to the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalizing the healthcare and education sectors.
The Renewed Hope Agenda, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has driven this growth, with a strong emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences (STEMM).
The Federal Ministries of Education and Health & Social Welfare, under the leadership of Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa and Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, respectively, have worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone.
According to a statement released by Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director of Information & Public Relations, on April 30, 2025, this achievement is a result of collaborative efforts between stakeholders, industry leaders, the Nigerian Council of Nurses and Midwifery, teaching hospitals, and Ministry staff.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on revitalizing the education and health sectors.
The surge in enrollment signals a transformative era for nursing education in Nigeria, positioning the country to meet domestic and global demands for qualified healthcare professionals.
