The Federal Government of Nigeria will host a two-day National Stakeholders’ Dialogue on Power in the Health Sector from Tuesday 9 to Wednesday 10 September 2025 at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja. The event, themed “Powering Health Through Public-Private Synergy: Energising Nigeria’s Health Sector for the Future,” will bring together policymakers, energy experts, healthcare leaders, development partners, and private sector innovators.
According to a statement signed by Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director and Head of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the dialogue aims to address the urgent need for sustainable, reliable, and climate-smart energy solutions across Nigeria’s healthcare facilities.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour, during which a historic Power and Health Compact will be signed. The agreement is part of the government’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda and the health sector’s 4-Point Agenda to ensure uninterrupted electricity in tertiary health institutions.
The dialogue will focus on assessing Nigeria’s current power policies and their impact on health facilities, showcasing innovative energy solutions—including renewables and backup systems—strengthening public-private partnerships, and exploring financing models to expand access to climate-smart, cost-effective electricity for hospitals and clinics nationwide. A Technology and Innovation Exhibition will run alongside the dialogue, providing an opportunity for companies and organizations to present solutions that enhance power reliability in healthcare settings.
Government leaders have highlighted the life-saving importance of reliable power in hospitals. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, noted that “Power is health. Without reliable electricity, vaccines spoil, surgeries stall, and lives are lost.” Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, added: “A hospital without power is a hospital without hope. This dialogue is about real solutions for patients and frontline health workers.” Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, emphasized that the collaboration signals Nigeria’s health sector is ready for sustainable transformation and is open to private sector investment.
The National Stakeholders’ Dialogue on Power in the Health Sector marks a key milestone in Nigeria’s effort to strengthen healthcare infrastructure with sustainable energy systems, reflecting the government’s commitment to results, reform, and public trust. Over the two days, stakeholders are expected to work collaboratively to chart a path for reliable and innovative power solutions across all levels of healthcare, while stakeholders and members of the public interested in the discussions can engage through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s official channels.
