The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Professor Abdullahi Mustapha as Director General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) for a new 5-year tenure, effective October 31, 2024.
Professor Mustapha, a renowned expert in bioinorganic chemistry, has been instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s biotechnology landscape through his visionary leadership and innovative research initiatives.
This development underscores the President’s confidence in Professor Mustapha’s leadership and vision for the agency.
The reappointment follows due process, with the President’s approval being the final step.
This was disclosed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the OSGF, “The reappointment of any federal agency chief executive is the sole prerogative of the President, in line with extant laws.”
The OSGF urges the public and stakeholders to disregard unfounded claims and speculations surrounding the reappointment, as the process was conducted in accordance with due process.
With this renewed mandate, NBRDA is poised to drive groundbreaking research and development in biotechnology, enhancing Nigeria’s scientific landscape under Professor Mustapha’s expert stewardship.
