PSC, Ministry Partner on Police Reforms

The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Ministry of Police Affairs have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at improving police accountability, transparency, and service delivery.

The partnership was formalized during a courtesy visit by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, to the PSC headquarters in Abuja.

The visit underscores the commitment of both agencies to work together in driving police reforms and improving internal security in Nigeria.

The Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Argungu, welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the importance of robust collaboration between police oversight agencies.

“There must be robust collaboration between police oversight agencies to ensure effective and efficient policing,” he said. “Mutual respect and regular consultation are essential. This is a promising start.”

Dr. Ogbonnaya highlighted the intrinsic link between the mandates of the PSC and the Ministry of Police Affairs, noting that effective collaboration is key to achieving their common goals.

“Our mandates are intrinsically linked, and effective collaboration is key to achieving our common goals,” he stated.

The partnership was witnessed by several dignitaries, including Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, Minister of Police Affairs, and Annet Gunther, German Ambassador to Nigeria.

Other attendees included representatives of the National Security Adviser, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Police Trust Fund, CLEEN Foundation, and United Nations Development Partners (UNDP).

The partnership aims to reform the Nigeria Police Force, enhance police accountability, and improve internal security in Nigeria.
