The Senate Committee on Appropriations will present its report on the N54.2 trillion 2025 budget estimates to the Senate this week, Senate President Godswill Akpabio said.
He made the announcement on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, during plenary, urging lawmakers to expedite the budget process. The report is expected to be presented on Wednesday or Thursday, paving the way for the Senate’s final deliberation and approval of the budget.
Recall that the National Assembly had initially set January 31, 2025, as the deadline for passing the N49.7 trillion budget proposed by President Bola Tinubu.
However, the President’s subsequent request to increase the budget to N54.2 trillion has altered the timeline, with the Senate now expected to receive the report on the revised budget this week.
The National Assembly has announced that it will reprocess the 2025 budget proposals to accommodate an additional N4.5 trillion requested by President Bola Tinubu.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, made this known in their separate remarks after reading the President’s letter.
The reprocessing will bring the total budget size to N54.2 trillion, up from the initial N49.7 trillion proposed in December 2024.
Akpabio has charged the Committee on Appropriations to fast-track the revised 2025 budget proposal.
The move is aimed at ensuring the passage of the N54.2 trillion budget before the end of February, following President Bola Tinubu’s request for an N4.5 trillion increase.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that the report on the revised 2025 budget will be presented to the Senate on either Wednesday or Thursday this week.
