The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have declared a joint offensive against what they described as long-standing “myths” around reckless driving and economic sabotage, insisting that transport impunity will now be confronted as both a safety and financial crime issue.

The move was announced on Tuesday, August 26, in Abuja when FRSC Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, paid a strategic visit to EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, to seal a new institutional alliance.

Mohammed emphasised that road safety must no longer be viewed as a routine transport matter but as a national security and economic priority. “The message is clear: economic sabotage and reckless endangerment of lives on our roads will be confronted with the full weight of the law. This partnership shows that unlawful transport practices and road carnage will no longer be tolerated,” he declared.

According to him, road crashes inflict avoidable financial losses and human tragedies that bleed the economy. He said the collaboration represents “integrity, law enforcement and public safety”, and will set a new standard for agencies working to protect lives and preserve national resources.

Responding, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede noted that transport indiscipline often triggers ripple effects on national growth and prosperity. “Beyond financial crimes, the EFCC is also charged with addressing economic sabotage, and reckless road practices are a major form of sabotage. Our shared mandate is to defend lives, resources and the future of Nigerians,” he said.

Both agencies vowed to intensify enforcement measures that will dispel the culture of impunity on Nigeria’s highways, while simultaneously safeguarding the economy from reckless financial and transport practices.
