The Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association (ROSOWA) has launched a nationwide Special Motor Park Campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of reckless driving on the roads. The campaign, which commenced at the Area One Garki Central Park, aims to promote road safety and protect the rights of pedestrians, cyclists, and female drivers.
The National President of ROSOWA, Dr. Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed, emphasized the need for drivers to obey traffic rules and avoid the consumption of alcoholic drinks. “Driving under the influence of illicit drugs and overspeeding are major factors causing accidents on the highways,” she said.
The ROSOWA President noted that the association would also commence road safety awareness programs in both public and private schools to instill a culture of safe driving in young people. Dr. Shehu-Mohammed appealed to commuters and motorists to support the campaign and prioritize road safety.
In her remarks, the President of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Mrs. Edna Azura, pledged the organization’s support for initiatives aimed at protecting the rights of women and children on the road. “We urge commercial drivers to offer necessary assistance to women whenever the need arises,” she said.
The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Muta’a Chorrie, commended ROSOWA for their commitment to advancing road safety advocacy. The campaign is part of activities marking the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week, with the theme “Streets for Life: Making Walking Safe, Making Cycling Safe.”
