The Senate Committee on Army has expressed deep condolences to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, following the death of Lt. Col. Aliyu Saidu Paiko and several soldiers killed during a recent attack in Borno State.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Committee Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, described the slain officers as true patriots who displayed exceptional courage and professionalism while defending Nigeria’s sovereignty. He said their sacrifice represents “the highest form of service to the nation.”
“On behalf of the Senate Committee on Army, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Army and the families of these gallant officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty,” Yar’adua said. “Their bravery and dedication will never be forgotten.”
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army in its ongoing counter-insurgency operations and welfare initiatives. It pledged to work with relevant authorities to ensure that troops are adequately equipped and their families properly supported. “We will continue to do everything within our legislative mandate to sustain peace and security across the country,” the statement added.
The lawmakers also prayed for the repose of the fallen soldiers and comfort for their families, urging Nigerians to keep faith with the Armed Forces as they continue to confront complex security challenges. “May Almighty Allah grant the fallen heroes Jannatul Firdaus and give their families strength to bear this irreparable loss,” Yar’adua said.
The Committee concluded with a renewed appeal to citizens to honour the sacrifices of Nigeria’s military personnel and support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace across conflict-affected regions.
