Senator Nwoko’s Bold Initiative to Wipe Out Malaria in Nigeria

By Nafisat Makinde

Abuja, Nigeria, March 3, 2025 – Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate, has renewed his call for a locally produced malaria vaccine and a structured national approach to eradicate the disease. This came during a workshop themed “Building and Strengthening Sustainable Malaria Vaccine Manufacturing Ecosystem in Nigeria,” which took place in Abuja.

According to a press statement released by his media consultant, Michael Ogah, Senator Nwoko emphasized the need for Nigeria to develop its own vaccine production capabilities rather than relying on foreign solutions. “Malaria is not an unsolvable problem. If this were a Western disease, the global response would have been swift. We must take responsibility for solving our own health crises,” he said.

The senator also stressed the importance of local vaccine production, saying, “We cannot continue to rely on foreign solutions to our problems. We must develop our own capacity to produce vaccines and tackle this disease head-on.”

Senator Nwoko’s proposed Malaria Eradication Agency Bill (SB.172) aims to coordinate malaria research, vaccine production, and large-scale eradication programs in Nigeria. “This bill is a crucial step towards achieving our goal of eradicating malaria in Nigeria,” he said.

The senator urged all stakeholders, including government agencies, health organizations, and research institutions, to support the passage of the bill. “We must work together to make this a reality. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to eradicate this disease,” he added.

The statement also revealed that Senator Nwoko has personally invested over $20 million in malaria research and pharmaceutical manufacturing across Africa.

The workshop, organized by the Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation, brought together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss strategies for sustainable vaccine production.

  1. I agree with the local vaccines, but will they provide all the necessary infrastructures to make it work ?
Haven’t we seen how our government hospitals look like ?
They have come again with their cock and bull stories

  2. This is a great Idea that I think should be supported by everyone knowing the extend of damages malaria has caused. Malaria has really eaten up a lots of great and intelligent people especially children who would have been great Doctors, Engr, Barrister, Governors, Senators, even President etc in the near future but malaria has sent some of them to early grave. If am to ask the Senator one question, I will begg him not to stop his dream of eradicating malaria. Thank you
