Shattering Glass Ceilings: President Tinubu’s Historic Appointment Empowers Nigerian Women

Nigerian women are commending President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to gender inclusivity.

In a historic move, President Tinubu approved the appointment of Ms. Folashade Adekaiyaoja as the first-ever Deputy Director General of the Department of State Service (DSS) in January.

This milestone was celebrated by women from various civil society organizations, including:

  • National Council of Women Societies (NCWS)
  • Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN)
  • Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ)
  • Association of Women in Trade and Agriculture (AWITA)

who visited the DSS Director General’s office in Abuja on Thursday, February 27,2025.

Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, praised President Tinubu, saying,

“It takes a visionary leader to promote women. I appreciate a visionary leader like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu..

” She also commended the President for increasing budgetary allocation to the ministry and the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) by over 1,000% and 500%, respectively.

Additionally, the Minister commended the DSS Director General, Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, for his efforts in empowering spouses and children of retired and fallen colleagues. She noted that the DG sponsored a training program for some women at the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD).

The DSS Director General, Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, responded by sharing his personal experience, saying that his mother’s love and influence made him appreciate and respect women.

This development is part of President Tinubu’s broader efforts to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in Nigeria.
