Smash the New Snakes: Tinubu Tells Security Chiefs to Crush Emerging Threats

By Dr. Nafisat Makinde

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to act decisively against emerging security threats across the country, warning that Nigeria cannot afford to let the crisis that began in 2009 continue.

Speaking during the decoration ceremony for the Service Chiefs at the State House, Abuja, President Tinubu said the event went beyond symbolism, describing it as the start of a renewed national effort to secure lives and property.

“As your Commander-in-Chief, I am entrusting you with a tremendous responsibility — one that you must approach with the highest standards of commitment and dedication,” the President told the top military officers. “Security is an essential element without which everything else is rendered meaningless. Our people and our nation must remain secure to enjoy the benefits of governance.”

While commending the armed forces for their patriotism and sacrifice, President Tinubu acknowledged that security challenges persist, especially with the rise of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South. “We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head,” he declared.

He urged the military to embrace innovation and technology in their operations, emphasizing that Nigerians expect results, not excuses. “Be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Let’s stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace. We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer,” he said.

President Tinubu assured the Service Chiefs of his administration’s full support, pledging to provide all necessary resources to achieve success. “I promise to provide all the support you need to get the job done. May God continue to keep our armed forces safe,” he concluded.
