President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Abubakar Bagudu Sulaiman as the substantive Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Kware, Sokoto State.
According to a statement signed by Olawale Opeloye, Chief Information Officer at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the appointment takes effect from 10th November 2025 and is for an initial four-year tenure.
A brief handing-over ceremony was held on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, where the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, formally presented the appointment letter to Dr. Sulaiman.

Dr. Salako urged the new Medical Director to justify the confidence reposed in him by strengthening service delivery, prioritising staff welfare, and fostering an inclusive, collaborative work environment. He also conveyed President Tinubu’s directive for the hospital to improve access to mental healthcare, reinforce administrative systems, and operate an open-door leadership style.
The Minister reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to restructuring and repositioning federal medical institutions to meet global standards in administration and human-capital development.
Responding, Dr. Abubakar Bagudu Sulaiman expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the Ministry’s leadership for the opportunity to serve. He pledged to uphold the responsibilities of the office with diligence and align his efforts with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the health sector.
Until his appointment, Dr. Sulaiman served in various clinical and administrative roles within the federal health system. He affirmed his readiness to strengthen mental healthcare delivery for residents of Sokoto State and surrounding communities.
The appointment is widely viewed as part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to bolster specialised healthcare services nationwide, particularly in the vital area of mental health.
