President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja on Friday after attending the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government Meeting in Rome, where world leaders renewed commitments to strengthen international cooperation against terrorism and violent extremism.
According to a press statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the high-level meeting was co-chaired by Jordan and Italy and focused on improving coordination in tackling extremist threats, particularly in West Africa.
The session, held on October 15 at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, brought together heads of state, security experts, and international delegates to review counterterrorism efforts and share best practices.
On the sidelines, President Tinubu held bilateral meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Massad Boulos, Senior Adviser on Arab and African Affairs to U.S. President Donald Trump. Discussions centred on promoting religious harmony, regional stability, and development cooperation.
Launched in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan, the Aqaba Process has hosted more than 30 meetings to enhance intelligence-sharing and global coordination in counterterrorism.
