By Dr. Nafisat Makinde

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has charged the five newly appointed permanent secretaries to uphold ethical conduct and drive the transition toward a fully digital and paperless civil service.

This was disclosed by Eno Olotu, FCAI, mnipr, Director of Press and Public Relations, who said Walson-Jack gave the charge at the close of a two-day induction programme in Abuja. She described the new officials as custodians of institutional memory and pivotal to sustaining stability and professionalism within the service.

Walson-Jack urged them to demonstrate integrity, strengthen accountability systems, and accelerate ongoing digital reforms across ministries. “Your mandate is both expansive and profound. Champion digital transformation and deliver results that make a difference in citizens’ lives,” she said.

She stressed that digitalisation remains central to transparency and modern governance, adding that the officials must lead by example as they assume oversight of critical departments in the federal bureaucracy.

The new permanent secretaries—appointed on merit after decades of service—are Alhaji Abdulkarim Ozi Ibrahim, Dr. John Chidiebere Ezeamama, Dr. Abdul Sule Usman Garba, Dr. Ishiyaku Musa Mohammed, and Dr. Ukaire Binyerem Chigbowu.

The induction also featured sessions with policy experts and retired administrators aimed at equipping the appointees to support the Federal Government’s reform agenda.

Former Permanent Secretary Fatima Mahmood urged them to bring discipline, clarity and courage to the task ahead.
