Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has urged G-7 states to embrace technology-driven security measures and closer collaboration to counter rising cross-border crimes threatening Abuja and its neighboring states.
Speaking at the 10th G-7 Security Summit in Abuja, Wike, represented by FCTA Head of Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, said criminals are exploiting technology to advance their operations, insisting security agencies must respond with smarter tactics.
“Our security agencies must be equipped with modern strategies, particularly joint operations, to effectively curtail the forays of criminal elements at all levels,” he said.
The Minister tasked the G-7 Technical Committee to design practical strategies to keep the FCT and its contiguous states safe. He commended security personnel for their sacrifice and pledged government support to strengthen law enforcement.
Earlier, FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, explained that the G-7 initiative was created to address crimes such as kidnapping, banditry, car theft, and human trafficking. He stressed that criminality transcends boundaries and requires coordinated responses and intelligence sharing.
Adewale expressed confidence that the summit would produce actionable recommendations to further strengthen G-7 as a united security platform.
The summit drew security chiefs, government officials, and representatives from G-7 states, reinforcing Abuja’s central role in shaping regional security strategies.
