The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has unveiled Abuja’s “Smart City Vision,” anchored on strategic investments in urban mobility, sustainability, public safety, digital governance, and economic empowerment.

Speaking on Tuesday at the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum in Dubai, Wike said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to building a modern, technology-driven capital that enhances the quality of life for residents while driving economic inclusion.

He explained that Abuja is collaborating with international agencies and private sector players to deliver projects that align with global smart city standards. These include smart water metering in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Chinese-supported intelligent traffic lights, and flagship developments such as the Abuja City Walk and Abuja Industrial Park.

Wike noted that the FCT’s Smart City agenda is built on public-private partnerships designed to attract investment, promote innovation, and ensure efficient service delivery. “Our goal is to create a sustainable city that leverages data and technology to meet the needs of its people,” he said.

Earlier, the minister met with the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, who also oversees the Political Affairs Office of the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The meeting explored opportunities for city-to-city collaboration between Abuja and Dubai, focusing on smart infrastructure, green energy, and knowledge exchange to support urban transformation in Nigeria’s capital.
