The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned against acts of vandalism targeting public infrastructure, saying such sabotage will not stop ongoing efforts under the Light-Up Abuja initiative and citywide road expansion projects.
Wike issued the warning on Thursday during the flag-off of the 3.8-kilometre Collector Road CN2 in Katampe District, where he reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to deliver a major infrastructure turnaround by 2026.
He said recent incidents of power cable vandalism along the Airport Road were attempts to frustrate progress, but assured residents that the FCT Administration remains determined to complete ongoing projects aimed at improving city security and mobility.
The new Katampe road, handled by China Geo-engineering Construction (CGC), will link Gishiri, Mabushi, and Katampe districts, easing traffic and boosting property value. It is one of several projects scheduled for commissioning during President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary.
Wike commended CGC for maintaining project momentum even before formal contract approval and urged the firm to employ more local workers while sustaining the use of local materials.
The contractor pledged to complete the project within eight months, creating more than 500 jobs during construction.
