The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is witnessing a remarkable transformation under the leadership of Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, according to Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche.
On May 31, 2025, Nwuche accompanied Minister Wike on an inspection tour of projects across Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Bwari Area Councils. “The level of work going on is just incredible in under two years. I’m quite amazed,” Nwuche stated.
He commended Wike’s dedication and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support, saying, “We should commend the Minister for putting his heart to the job and we should commend the President for giving the support that is required for these wonderful feats achieved so far.” He also noted that if the pace of development had been maintained since 1999, Abuja would have been much more advanced by now.
Wike emphasized the importance of community support in safeguarding public assets, urging residents to protect infrastructure like streetlights. “If we own this property, this is our community, it will not happen,” he said, stressing the need for collective responsibility in maintaining public assets.
The Minister highlighted the potential of Abuja to become a major food basket, citing improved rural roads and access to farmlands. In his words, “Abuja possesses the necessary resources, including arable land and water. Strong leadership, such as that provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is key to unlocking this potential.”
When asked about the project most dear to his heart among those slated for commissioning, Wike stated that all projects are equally important, as they directly impact people’s lives. “Everyone is important and that is why we are giving attention to all of them. If one is dear, then we would not have paid attention to all of them,” he said.
The FCT Minister revealed plans to extend the 30.4-kilometer A2-Pai-Gomani road in Kwali to Yangoji, bringing the project to 43 kilometers. “That place will be something else. The communities are so happy. This is what we talk about, development and dividends of democracy,” he enthused.
He also emphasized that roads are the cornerstone of development, enabling the construction of schools, health facilities, and other infrastructure. “With the road, other things will now come up; you can go and build schools and health facilities,” he said.
